 @jdlasica Agreed. But in cases where a specific action is desired, taking away the sidebars can help. For example, my email subscriber page increased about 10% in conversions when I removed the distracting sidebar. Like you said though, check your analytics!

I might quibble with #13 — we use sidebars on just about every landing page of Socialbrite. We just added a customized sidebar on our Services page for folks to contact us, so we’re using the sidebar as the call to action. Readers will have to decide whether the sidebar serves a valuable purpose, including driving people to other areas of the site, instead of just leaving (since no one uses the back button anymore). Bottom line: Test, and check your analytics! :~)
