<h3>Stats that you should measure before revamping your tactics</h3>
<p><a href="/author/john-haydon/" target="_blank"><a href="https://www.socialbrite.org/author/john-haydon/"><img decoding="async" src="https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/userphoto/john-haydon.jpg" alt="John Haydon" class="sig nob" /></a></a><span class="dropcap">I</span>f you want your website to increase the number of email subscribers and new donors on your website, you first have to know what’s currently working (or not) on your website. The best tool for the job is <a href="http://www.google.com/analytics/" target="_blank">Google Analytics</a>. </p>
<p>Here are five important stats to measure with Google Analytics:<span id="more-21833"></span></p>
<h4>Visits</h4>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-21841" title="visits" src="http://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/visits.png" alt="" width="947" height="247" srcset="https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/visits.png 947w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/visits-300x78.png 300w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/visits-525x136.png 525w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/visits-500x130.png 500w" sizes="(max-width: 947px) 100vw, 947px" /></p>
<p><span class="dropcap2">1</span>The audience report in Google Analytics will show you how many visits your website is receiving within a specific time period. This report will tell you how well your social media, search engine optimization (<a href="http://www.socialbrite.org/sharing-center/glossary/#seo" title="what is SEO" target="_blank">SEO</a>) and other marketing strategies are working. But getting visits is just the beginning.</p>
<h4>People</h4>
<p> <img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21842" title="people" src="http://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/people-525x296.png" alt="" width="525" height="296" srcset="https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/people-525x296.png 525w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/people-300x169.png 300w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/people-500x282.png 500w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/people.png 748w" sizes="(max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /> </p>
<p><span class="dropcap2">2</span>Within the Audience report, you can learn more about who’s visiting your website, how recently they’ve visited, how often they return, and how many of them are new visitors.</p>
<h4>Sources</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21843" title="sources" src="http://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/sources-525x239.png" alt="" width="525" height="239" srcset="https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/sources-525x239.png 525w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/sources-300x136.png 300w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/sources-500x228.png 500w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/sources.png 614w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></p>
<p><span class="dropcap2">3</span>In Google Analytics, the Traffic Sources Overview will tell you how people are getting to your website. Are they finding you mainly through search? Through referral traffic? Or do they visit directly?</p>
<p>You can drill down into these sources for more details, and then develop strategies to get the most out of each referral source.</p>
<h4>Pages</h4>
<p><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-21844" title="pages" src="http://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/pages.png" alt="" width="461" height="409" srcset="https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/pages.png 461w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/pages-300x266.png 300w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/pages-338x300.png 338w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px" /></p>
<p><span class="dropcap2">4</span>The content reports will help you understand which topics people are most interested in on your website. These pages can (and should) be tweaked to increase new email subscribers, new donors or whatever other conversion goal you have for your website.</p>
<p>You also want to analyze what pages people enter on your site, and which pages they exit. Ultimately, you want some of your top exit pages to be the ones people hit <em>after</em> they join your email list or make a donation.</p>
<h4>Social sources</h4>
<p><a href="http://www.socialbrite.org/2012/10/01/5-google-analytics-stats-you-should-be-tracking/socialsources/" rel="attachment wp-att-21845"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-21845" title="socialsources" src="http://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/socialsources-525x173.png" alt="" width="525" height="173" srcset="https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/socialsources-525x173.png 525w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/socialsources-300x98.png 300w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/socialsources-500x164.png 500w, https://www.socialbrite.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/socialsources.png 1049w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px" /></a></p>
<p><span class="dropcap2">5</span>Google Analytics includes a set of new reports that show where people engage with your content. You’ll be able to see what people are saying in each social network, and learn what type of content works best for each network.</p>
