Very interesting presentation I’ve saw here. This is where the social media value is really reflected based on their experience. I use it for my own personal news feed and I’m connecting to people and brands I love. Much more than on Facebook But facebook has its advantages and if you do it right, you can have such great relationship marketing, your brand can explode Just most don’t know how to do it or how much time it takes to do it right.

Nice list. Backtype now have been acquired by Twitter so its no longer available. Although they say that they are working on new analytics product for Twitter. My company uses Compete.com, Google Analytics and Heardable.com. I'd have to say http://heardable.com is the most useful in my daily job as social media manager because it combines social media insights, search, usability, mobile, and other metrics into a single dashboard. They offer a lot for free. Their best features are their comparative metrics and the ability to set up custom lists...but you'll need to subscribe to get that feature.
I think @todaypulse (http://todaypulse.com) fits well into this great list. ;)

Great list. Really comprehensive. But must be quite bamboozling for those new to this field. The majority of these tools are great for tracking keywords orgetting a high-level view of the 'conversation', but I would contend that they still create even more data that needs a lot of manual intervention to understand where real business value is being derived.
I have to agree with you, Hugh. I'm a relatively newcomer to the field. I'm overwhelmed and not clear on the step-by-step. I need to know this stuff if I'm going to impress a potential employer this week. As a Communications Manager, some of my duties will involve social media marketing. I published an article on social marketing back in 2003, but things have accelorated beyond what I could have imagined. I need the Coles Notes version (for free). Any leads anyone?
